Over the Thanksgiving weekend, a new record of four Magic teams, visited San Diego for an annual college showcases. Each of the team's work and progress over time has led them a unique opportunity to compete with opponents from all over the country in front of the visiting and local soccer fans, families and college coaches.
MAGIC 03G Girls (U15s)
U15Gs made their first trip to the Surf College Cup. The girls progress into this elite competition is no surprise as they continued to improve and build on their successful 2017 season which saw them excel in US Club Regionals, Rage College Showcase & Mustang Stampede Tournament. 03G played two Southern California teams and one Minnesota team in San Diego.
MAGIC 01 Girls (U17s)
Magic 01G battled elements as they took on two teams from Southern California and one team from Arizona in San Diego at November Nights College Showcase. As was their goal, Magic ladies improved with each game, finding rhythm and balance in their offensive and defensive game play. Girls demonstrated individual and collective qualities which will only be enhanced with this experience.
The consistent growth & progress this team shows is inspiration to all Magic - well done 01Gs!
MAGIC 99 Boys (U19s)
Our Magic 99B team is a first boys graduating class from our club! They’ve paved the way and set the standard for the brand of soccer on the field and the commitment off the field it takes to reach the top.
Nomads Showcase Recap:
Boys were proud of the way they played the games and the atmosphere they had in their camp. They finished undefeated in group play and posted positive seven goal differential after those three games.
In quarterfinal match, boys came back late in the game to secure 2:1 victory over San Diego Football Academy and clinch berth in the semifinals. Very emotional and memorable game experience for the boys, our families on the side lines and the coaching staff!
Semifinal match (5th game for both teams in less than 48 hours) was a big mental and physical challenge for both teams. Our boys were up 1:0 and saw the lead slip in late stages as PASS Academy (WA) took the 1:2 lead and eventually advance to the final. Congrats PASS Academy.. well played.
MAGIC 99 Girls (U19s)
The Magic 99Gs made their final trip to the Surf College Cup to the very familiar playing grounds. The 99Gs have attended their 5th consecutive Surf College Cup (9th if including Summer Surf Cup).
The girls began their journey with an opening game with So Cal Blues ECNL with younger Magic team (03s) providing extra support from the sidelines. Magic overcame the So Cal Blues with 5:2 victory.
The second day 99Gs played Northern California opponents in Blues FC who came into the game ranked as #1 team in the nation. Magic girls came back from two goals down to tie the game in the end, 3:3.
In the final game Magic girls faced La Roca team from Utah. Same team that knocked out 99s few months earlier in Far West Regional Championships in Seattle, WA. Despite more than few injuries that forced much adaptation Magic deservedly and in dramatic fashion took a 4:3 win.
We are very proud of the way all teams represented our club, our community and Northern California - well done!
